Hope your week's begun well; I'm hoping things pick up after the Super Bowl. The games are usually so mediocre that I started watching it only for the commercials a few years ago -- now the commercials aren't all that great anymore (although I liked the Fedex one and the Bud Light/Magic Fridge one).
Spent some time playing with a new toy -- a juicer! I've been drinking a lot of fresh-squeezed citrus juice lately; I have an electric juicer that's basically a manual one except the hemispherical ridged top "spins" when you push the fruit on it. I wondered if there were an easier way. Happened to see a Jack LaLanne juicer commercial where they tossed the entire fruit, peels and all, into the machine. That sounded a lot easier!
Ordered one and it came in the other day. Quickly learned three things:
1) The blade spins about 5,000,000,000,000,000 revolutions a minute. When you turn it off, it's going to take some time for the blade to stop. When remove the cover too soon, it splatters grated stuff ALL OVER THE KITCHEN at very high speeds!!!
2) Ever made "zest" -- you know, where you finely grate the colored part of the peel for oranges, lemons, etc. Remember how they say "Be careful not to get any of the bitter-tasting white part of the peel underneath the colored part." Guess what you get when you toss the entire unpeeled fruit in a juicer -- yep, the entire bitter tasting white part of the peel! Made beautiful-looking juice, but was the nastiest tasting stuff ever! Yuck! Tried peeling the fruits first, but that's too much trouble -- am back to the original electric/manual juicer I used at the beginning.
3) Target has the same machine for $60 less. Oh well, live and learn ...
The new juicer wasn't a total waste -- it's made great tomato juice (which I hate, but it helped make great spaghetti sauce and I didn't have to peel tomatoes). Am going to try fruits with better tasting or tasteless peels -- apples, perhaps -- and see what happens.
That, of course, brings up the trivia question of whether a tomatoe is a fruit or a vegatable. This is a trick question -- botanically, it's a fruit, but legally, it's a vegatable. Around the turn of the century, vegatables were taxed when imported, but fruits were not. The importer didn't want to pay taxes on his tomatoes; the state wanted him to (I believe it was New York). Went up to the Supreme Court who sided against botanical science and with politics -- so legally (since 1915 or so), tomatoes are a vegatable in the United States (but presumably a fruit elsewhere!)
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Two of Pentacles
Seven of Cups
I always think of the Two of Pentacles as being those situations where you're trying to do laundry, balance your checkbook, and put things away while the phone is ringing, someone's knocking at the door, the dogs are barking, and the kids are hollering. You're involved in a hectic situations and there's a lot of distraction going on -- it's really hard to stay focused.
(Totally off the subject -- read yesterday where they found office workers lost 10 IQ points when they were distracted by hearing other people talk on the phone and keeping up with emails. Hmmmm ... maybe it's not so off-the-subject, after all!)
Dealing with hectic situations is just part of life -- happens to all of us; to some of us, it seems to happen quite frequently! The trick is figuring out how to handle it without going batty.
Our second card can help us here -- the Seven of Cups suggests we spend some time thinking about the rewards we'll gain when we work through the distractions and complete our tasks. Maybe it's little rewards, maybe it's something much bigger and more long term. No matter -- if we spend a little time focussing on the reasons why we want to complete our task, the distractions seem to fade to sideline issues; this makes it much easier to stay on task without getting too frazzled!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Opening Up Walls
Hi there!
I feel like I'm in a time machine that's racing forward -- the days don't seem to last as long as they used to and I keep getting behinder and behinder (that's a Southern word -- "Behinder")
Had an interesting moment last week; my company sent a bunch of us to a required "Diversity" training session. It actually wasn't what I expected, but there were some neat points.
They showed us a short "documentary" from the early 1960's. A 3rd grade school teacher in Iowa did an experiment (with the approval of the school and the parents). Take a little Iowa town in 1960ish, and you can guess the racial mix -- none! Anyway, the teacher discussed "racism" with the children; they agreed it was wrong to judge people that way, but didn't really understand the issue.
The experiment was this -- the teacher noted that the class was about half blue-eyed and half brown-eyed. She said "For today, blue-eyed people are "better" than brown-eyed people. Brown eyed people aren't as smart as blue-eyed people, they take too long to do things, they have to stay away from the blue-eyed people and can't play on the playground equipment. They also have to stand in the back of the line." You get the picture.
The next day, the teacher switched it around; "I was wrong yesterday, it's really brown-eyed people that are superior to blue-eyed people" and gave them appropriate instructions.
Without going into detail on the video, it was very touching ... they interviewed the now grown-up children and they all claimed it was a life-changing experience.
That's the good part -- the wierd part came when one of my co-workers -- a Dutch person -- raised his hand and said "I don't understand you Americans -- why are you always so ready to judge people by race. This would never happen in the Netherlands; we are a cosmopolitan and tolerant people."
Another co-worker popped up and replied "Wait a minute, I've been to the Netherlands. There is a sizable Moroccan population and they are treated very badly by the rest of the population."
"Well, that's different," said the Dutch person, "everyone knows Moroccan's are all criminals and should be treated differently!"
The room was silent -- and it was wonderful to watch the expressions on the Dutch person's face as he slowly began to realize what he had said. I wonder if perhaps that might have been the beginning of a life-changing experience for him?
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Four of Pentacles
Two of Wands
The Four of Pentacles typically refers to those times when we erect "walls" around ourselves -- we try to keep ourself safe by shutting away external things. The kicker is that when we do this, we actually lose ground by neglecting educational and fulfilling experiences with the outside world. (Just thinking -- my friend from the Netherlands had erected walls around himself; I wonder if he's peeking outside now?)
The Two of Wands refers to bold actions -- which suggests the necessary confidence to take a risk. Right off, we see the contrast between the two cards. The Four of Pentacles tries to avoid risks -- the Two of Wands sees the positives in risks. Taking risks means you sometimes have to be quick on your feet -- you have to solve unexpected problems that my pop up. This two suggests you'll be able to discover creative or original solutions to the problems you may encounter. There's usually a "naysayer" around when you're embarking on a Two of Wands situation -- so this card also suggests you'll have faith and belief in your own vision and the energy to see it through.
There are a couple of ways we could play these two cards; being almost opposites of each other, we could say the first card suggests a condition to avoid and the second card suggests what should replace it. We could also think that since the two cards represent different extremes, we might "average" the two. Consider risks, but be cautious in doing so -- don't go all out with no fallback position. We might also look for positives in both positions -- there are some good things about the Four of Pentacles, after all. Being safe isn't a bad thing; perhaps we could temper the extremes of this outlook by reducing our walls a bit to let external influences color our outlook. To a Four of Pentacles person, this would almost be "taking a risk"!
Does this make you think of things in your life where it might apply? Are there positions or opinions where you've set yourself in stone and aren't open to other considerations? If so, maybe this is good -- and maybe it isn't. It never hurts to open up a little and "take a risk" to ensure we're taking the proper stance. Things seldom remain static -- generally, remaining fixed means losing ground!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Stay Flexible
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well so far -- I've had a good one so far. I've been in Chicago this week (going back home tomorrow) and had to give a presentation to a client today that went really well. I haven't had to do presentations for quite a while, but this was a very receptive crowd and it all came back to me quickly.
Had a fine weekend, too. Did the Princess Diana gown exhibit, visited the boat show, and listened to Eileen Ivers at the symphony Saturday night. Ivers is an Irish fiddler (she was the main fiddler for Riverdance and also played on the "Titanic" soundtrack -- the movie, that is!) and really had the crowd jumping. Got me excited about picking up my violin again -- it's been quite a while. She took Pachelbel's Canon in D and turned it into a bluegrass/fiddle tune -- very creative!
Weather's nice here in Chicago -- not cold like last time I was here. I'll be back up in a few weeks; my younger son's going through boot camp at Great Lakes (just north of the city) and will be "graduating" near the end of the month. I'm really glad he's following through so well -- he's finally found something he's serious about! (whew ... It's about time, too!)
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
The Knight of Swords
The Nine of Swords (reversed)
First off, all Knights tend to be a little anxious -- they really want to make things happen. Sometimes they jump off before they're quite ready ... well, most of the time they jump off before they're quite ready, but that's just being a knight! Because they're so impatient, they do tend to run into unforseen snags.
The Knight of Swords tries to resolve these issues by reasoning them through. His first impression isn't to do what feels right, but instead to try and analyze things to determine the proper response. Some folks might see this as being inconsiderate; some may see it as taking too much time to solve the problem. In fact, the danger of this card is in being overly cautious -- in not being able to decide on a position because we're not sure if it's the absolute best position.
The next card seems to reinforce this -- this Nine often suggests worry and anxiety. I can easily see the Knight becoming stuck trying to determine the one and only absolutely best position, then things becoming worse as this Knight begins to overly worry about whether or not he's doing the right thing.
The good thing here is that the Nine is reversed -- so we should take this as a warning and try to avoid this stumbling block! Let's not become overly fixated -- to the point of stagnation -- on choosing the absolutely best position. Instead, we might be better off at choosing a good solution ... and then making that solution work by adjusting it as necessary to meet our goals.
I think it's rare that a person can plan a goal and have every single step occur just as planned. I think most plans should be a guideline -- and we then let our creativity adjust things as we learn more while trying to reach our goal. (In fact, since we learn as we progress, our "goal" probably should be progressing as well. People who don't vary from their plan often find that the goal they ultimately reach isn't the one they now desire!)
So ... stay flexible! Don't be turned off by having to make decisions -- make the best call you can, and then work to make that decision right. Don't worry if you have to change streams or tactics as you progress -- that's normal. Trust in your creativity -- you don't need all the answers right away ... especially since you probably won't know all the questions at first, either!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Look to Goals in the New Year
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well so far -- I'm about buzzed out over the last few days of football bowl games. I'm very excited about Texas and the Rose Bowl results.
After all the hype about the three-time national champion USC Trojans, I find it interesting that they really only won one of those trophies. LSU, of course, won the first, USC the second, and now the Longhorns have the third. I suppose it only illustrates that if you keep repeating something that's not true, everyone will start to believe it!
I hope this New Year has begun well for you -- things have been hectic in Houston. My in-laws are visiting this weekend; we're going to the Lady Diana gown exhibition, a Boat Show, and an evening of Celtic music at the symphony. It's going to be a very busy weekend.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Nine of Pentacles
King Of Cups
Interesting -- we've "progressed" from our last reading; last time we had the Eight of Pentacles and Knight of Cups -- this time we have the Nine of Pentacles and King of Cups!
The Nine of Pentacles suggests the ability to attain a desirable position -- to reach a goal. To attain goals, we usually need certain attributes -- confidence, discipline, competence, focus, energy -- and this Nine suggests we are able to use those attributes. This Nine really suggests relying on yourself and your abilities -- and not counting on others to do things for you.
Let's see how our second card, the King of Cups, can help us implement the positive features of the Nine of Pentacles. This King is a tolerant and broad-minded card -- it truly cares about and respects other people. This card is confident and in control -- both of which obviously help us with the promise of our Nine. Note that since this is an open-minded card, it can help us see across boundaries to spot promise and opportunity where we might not ordinarily look. This helps us add a certain amount of originality and creativity to our mix.
Also, Kings are finishers -- they tend to complete things. If the Nine seeks a goal, the King can help ensure we attain it. Bottom line, this draw suggests we can attain the goals that are important to us -- and also suggests that the tools we'll need lie within ourselves.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week.

Merry Christmas!
I hope your week's been going well so far -- the shopping frenzy is wild up here in Chicago, but I'm trying to stay out of stores.
Was in the Post Office a few days ago -- and I'd like to pass along one of my Post Office pet peeves. It goes like this -- someone wants to mail a package, the postal clerk asks "Priority Mail or Express Mail"? When asked the difference, the clerk says "Well, we'll deliver Priority in two or three days, but Express Mail will be THERE tomorrow!" They usually close the deal for the three times pricier Express Mail.
It bugs me because Priority Mail will most always be in your recipient's hands before -- quite often, DAYS before -- Express Mail would be there!
The key is what the clerk means by "will be THERE tomorrow". Note he doesn't say it will be delivered tomorrow -- just that it will be "there". When you read the fine print, you find out that all they guarantee is that the package will be at the recipient's post office tomorrow -- that's the "there" they're talking about.
Once at the post office, it's now up to the mail carrier to grab the package and deliver it. Maybe he'll get it the same day -- but maybe he won't. Assume he does pick up the package and attempts to deliver. Express Mail requires that the recipient sign for the package. If no one's there to sign in the middle of the day, the carrier leaves one of those yellow notes directing the recipient to come by the post office -- no sooner than the next day -- to pick up the package. If the carrier is like mine, they won't even bother to get out of the truck to ring the bell -- they'll automatically leave the yellow note even if I'm at home.
So, now the recipient has to go to the post office for the package. That may take a few days before they have time to do so. Add up the hassle and the long lines at the post office, and you'll see why the Priority Mail package (which does not have to be signed for) usually gets to the recipient long before Express Mail -- plus it usually costs a third of Express Mail prices!
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Knight of Cups
Eight of Pentacles
No reversals this week! Maybe we're moving forward now!
When we see the Knight of Cups, we're usually talking about emotions and feelings. This knight is driven by his strong sense of emotion. One problem with being too involved with emotions is that we may look inwards too much -- we may become overly concerned with how things make us feel. This is in general a good card -- but we should try to remain balanced. Remember that most Knights tend to over-react -- we may find ourselves in situations when it is easy to do so, but best if we do not! I'm thinking that the holidays tend to be a very emotional time -- let's enjoy those feelings, but not let them drive us out of whack! Keep one foot in the real world!
Lets see how our next card, the Eight of Pentacles, can help us. I've mentioned before that this eight is a "joy of work" card -- it recognizes that making an effort to attain a goal can itself be a source of enjoyment and comfort. In particular, this eight likes to do a job extremely well -- this means taking the time to check out all the details and reviewing all the important -- and not so important points.
Note that while the Knight of Cups tends to overemphasize the emotional aspects, the Eight of Pentacles helps us look at all facets of a situation. When we put them together, we find that we are able to comfort ourselves with a warm blanket of emotional feelings -- but that we don't have to be overwhelmed by those feelings. While important, they're just part of the story. Enjoy them, but remember that the Eight can help us see the entire -- and truer -- picture.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Close Tough Decisions
I hope your week's been going well. My Microsoft Office decided to quit working -- had to go through hoops to uninstall and reinstall it. Finally got it working again late last night! I can't wait till Linux takes over the Microsoft world (probably won't happen -- but I can hope!)
My son's up in Great Lakes, IL (basically north Chicago); I've been teasing him about the weather up there. Just found out I've got to go to Chicago for all of next week -- I guess he'll be getting payback. I figure I'll get snowed in at the airport and will spend Xmas in Chicago.
Two airports I try to avoid in the winter -- Chicago and Cleveland. When your ticket says you're connecting in Cleveland, you'd best plan on spending the night there because your flight will either be delayed many, many hours or simply cancelled.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Judgement (Reversed)
Chariot (Reversed)
That's two weeks in a row we've drawn two Major Arcana cards. When I see an excess or a sequence of Trumps, I always figure the deck is telling me to "Pay attention, this is important!"
Judgement suggests making decisions -- probably those tough ones that you've been putting off. You should be straight and honest, but you should also make a stand. This is usually tough to do (after all, that's probably why you've put it off!), but there are benefits. One major benefit is that it frees you -- you no longer have an unfinished matter hanging over you. Judgement is good about closing issues -- it can often suggest forgiving others for past transgressions; maybe it's time to leave the past behind and move on.
The reversal recognizes how easy it is to say this, but how difficult it is to do. Perhaps this is a good time to examine your situation and see if there are any areas where a tough, but honest, application of Judgement might benefit you?
Our next card might help us a bit. The Chariot is a "Win" card -- it suggests prevailing over an obstacle by virtue of your will. This is a nice way of saying "being just too stubborn to give up". You can prepare all you want, but if you don't have the will to pull it off, you're not going to. The Chariot acknowledges that you CAN overcome problems -- all you have to do is stick it out.
Again, we have a reversal -- again recognizing how easy it is to say, but difficult to do! Perhaps realizing that success is possible -- if you're willing to stay the course -- might make it easier to get through those tough spots?
Bottom line, consider those tough decisions that vex you. If you're willing to ride it out, you can address those issues honestly and fairly -- and close them out so you can move on to better things!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well. I'm sorry for missing last week -- the holiday's have just been getting more and more hectic. Seems like I'm spending all of my time on the road -- but I am staying out of stores!
Don't know if I mentioned it or not, but my son visited New Orleans a week or so ago. He said the stories you've seen on the new don't even come close to depicting how bad it is. At one point, they were driving through a fairly ritzy, but deserted neighborhood. They had to stop because there was a house in the middle of the street. As they were driving around the house, they realized there was no empty slab anywhere nearby. The house had floated there from another subdivision!
He described New Orleans as "grey" -- no color, just drab. I don't think they're going to be able to rebuild New Orleans; I think it'll form an inner city on the high ground of about 75,000 people, then it'll just have to grow on it's own from there, just like any other town.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Strength
Death
Strength doesn't necessarily refer to physical strength, but to inner strength. For example, it could suggest the strength to resist temptation, or the strength to persevere during hard times. Strength is a patient card - it is used to dealing with frustration. It’s also a compassionate card - it recognizes the weaknesses in others, but doesn’t hold it against them. Finally, Strength represents the ability to control others - not by dominant force of will, but by influencing them through example. To get an idea of how we might try to apply this sort of strength, let's look at our next card -- Death!
It’s okay - Death doesn’t really mean Death! Actually, Death means something new, or change. Remember the expression "The King is dead, long live the King!" - that’s kind or what Death means. It says life goes on - the end of one thing is the beginning of something new. Because of this, Death often suggests a period of transition. Death often suggests eliminating less meaningful factors and concentrating on the basic, key points that concern you.
When we put these together, we could see a suggestion of change. Perhaps we've been trying to solve difficult matters the wrong way -- perhaps we're misapplying our inner strength? Death suggests a change -- and the change should be the positive attributes suggested by Strength. When we're frustrated, simply be patient ... things like likely clear up. Don't get distracted by side issues -- concentrate on what really matters.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. New Project?
Hi there!
I hope your week's begun well; I've been over in Tallahassee, Florida for the past few days. It's a pretty neat town -- I highly recommend you eat at Cool Beanz if you're ever over here. The building looks like a converted laundromat -- but the menu reads like Iron Chef American! I had seared scallops, fried spinach (!), and lobster mashed potatoes! Really a nice experience!
I've driven through Tallahassee on I-10 dozens of times, but never really saw the town. Discovered that's because the town doesn't really lie along I-10 -- the bulk of the town is a couple of miles south of I-10. Found a nice used bookstore along Timberlane Lane just off of Thomasville Road (one of the exits off I-10) -- can't recall the name offhand.
They have a real small airport -- but free wireless internet, so that's a plus. They claim to have free wireless throughout downtown, but I didn't have a chance to give it a try.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Three of Pentacles
The World
Our first card, The Three of Pentacles, is a practical card -- it's solidly situated in the material world. It's not suggesting planning or thinking or dreaming -- it's suggesting DOING something! It represents the comfortable feeling you get when you've been creative and productive. Perhaps part of this comfort is because this Three also suggests success -- and therefore implies things necessary for success.
The next card suggests the logical conclusion of this Three. "The World" suggests that things have reached a satisfactory conclusion. In particular, it suggests being personally involved in this process - in guiding the matter to it’s successful conclusion.
I believe this draw suggests this might be a good time to consider a new project -- the Three suggests that you will be able to find the focus and energy to enjoy the process. The World suggests we'll receive satisfaction after engaging in the project. Note that satisfaction can come from a successful outcome -- or it can come from an enjoyable experience!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. As always, if you're interested in a private reading, please try my sponsors above or my list of readers at http://www.woodsongtarot.com/readers.html .

Be patient -- you can reach your goal!
I hope your week's begun well; I hope you didn't stumble on the Daylight Savings thing, either! I never can remember "Spring Ahead, Fall Back", because "Spring Back, Fall Ahead" sounds right to me as well. I always have trouble picking between "In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue" and "In 1493, Columbus sailed the deep blue sea", too!
I've started my holiday shopping -- I refuse to enter a store between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I used to buy a lot at festivals and fairs; I tend to do Internet shopping nowadays. Hope to be finished with all of it by the end of the month.
Today's a tough day for me -- I've been trying to avoid sugar and candy. I waited until the last minute to buy Halloween candy (I normally buy it early, eat it all, buy it again, eat it all, buy it again, eat it all, etc). Now I'm hoping we have anough kids coming by so I can give it all away. We used to have big crowds several years back, but lately we've only been getting a handful of kids passing by. I think my subdivision is growing up.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Ten of Wands
The Hierophant
Seems like we've been seeing a lot of cards like the Ten of Wands lately. Looking for a quick fix -- the Ten of Wands suggests you'll be disappointed! This card reminds us that sometimes you have to work hard to gain what you want. This might even feel like an ongoing struggle -- you might feel like you never get ahead. When you feel this way, you should objectively and fairly ask, 1) have I really tried? And 2) If I have tried, then have I at least made some small progress? If you can honestly say you’ve tried and that you’ve made even a teensy bit of progress, then you know you can succeed.
It’d be nice to win the game in a single play - but the important thing is winning the game! Doesn’t matter if it’s a last-minute strike or a long, time-consuming grind - the end result is all that matters. So don’t be discouraged by something just because it looks like it might be hard - instead, decide if the end product is something or someplace you’d like to be. If so, then don’t fear the encounter because it seems difficult. The Ten suggests not quitting when times seem tough - be honest in evaluating, but be confident in your abilities.
Our next card helps build on this message. Last week, we saw The Emperor -- a rule giver. This week, we have the Hierophant -- a rule follower. This card likes to do things the traditional and established way. He doesn't call for originality to solve problems; he instead prefers to draw on tradition and do things “by the book”. Remember the old Smith-Barney commercial, "Smith-Barney makes money the old-fashioned way ... they EARN it!" That's the Hierophant. He knows that he will be successful if he simply follows the established path. Might not be the quickest -- but it will get you there.
See the similarity with the Ten of Wands. Neither of these cards suggest looking for quick fixes -- but both emphasize that slow, steady, and honest progress will gain your destination. Don't be discouraged if you don't see your goal right away -- that doesn't mean you're failing! If you just confirm that you are following the proper path, you know you'll eventually successfully reach your goal.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Tarot Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well; I'm looking forward to the weekend. This is our makeup weekend for the Renaissance Festival.
We're all in costume this year; I actually sewed a costume for my daughter this year! I don't sew, but I had bought a nice Bernina sewing machine about 8 years ago as a present. It never got used, so I thought "Why not? I can follow woodworking directions, I can follow auto mechanic manual directions, so I should be able to follow sewing directions!"
Well, I discovered that sewing directions often leave a lot that you've got to fill in on your own. Still, it wasn't a total disaster (althought I got real good at using a seam ripper!) and I managed to come up with a nice vest, chemise, and skirt so my daughter can be a "wench" this year! Talked her out of the mini-skirt thing, too. I'll try and get her to stay still for a moment this weekend so I can take a picture; I'll try to post it on the website.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Queen of Swords
Eight of Swords (Reversed)
Note that both of these cards are Swords. Swords suggests matters of intellect and analysis -- perhaps we won't really so much on feelings and intuition, but instead more on thinking about the issues!
The Queen of Swords suggests both book smarts and street smarts tempered with experience. This lady has been around the block -- she's seen a lot and has learned a lot. She can generally think her way out of tough spots because she can step back and analyze a situation. She keeps a cool head and keeps her emotions in check.
This Queen is an awesome resource to rely on when we're facing troubling situations. She's not afraid of facing issues. Let's look at out second card to see how we might be able to use this Queen.
The Eight of Swords suggests those times when we feel "trapped" by circumstances. For whatever reason, we may feel hemmed in; we may feel that we have little free choice and that our courses are already dictated to use by the situation. In fact, the reversal seems to emphasize this aspect of the card.
The truth is very different. What this Eight also reveals is that if we only examine our situation a little more clearly, we'll see there are many avenues of escape available to us. Rather than having limited choice, we actually have a great deal of choice and control over the situation. We'll only realize this if we take the time to critically and objectively examine our situation. And what tool could be better for such analysis than the Queen of Swords!
So, if you feel like you have little control over events in your life, take a little more time to fairly review things. Use what you know and what you've learned to help you spot the choices that are really available to you. You can take control if you want.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's begun well; I'm up just north of Philadelphia this week. I was hoping for some cool weather, but it's not going to turn cool till this weekend.
I found out I did suffer a little bit from Hurricane Rita last week -- while we were gone, someone broke into our house and began stealing guitars again!
You may remember that I had about 30 guitars stolen about a year and a half ago. When we returned from our Hurricane Rita refugee experience, I realized several of my newer guitars were missing!
The screwy thing is that we caught the culprit when he returned for another load! My son was alone at home, eating breakfast. The doorbell rang; he ignored it. It rang again; he ignored it again and continued eating. He then heard a strange noise from upstairs, then footsteps on the stairs, then heard someone rooting around in the guitar closet.
He got up to check and surprised the thief as he was removing guitars from the closet! It was one of my younger son's friends; in fact, it was the same person we suspected of the original theft. He claimed he was looking for one of his guitars; my sone threw him out of the house. It seems this kid rang the bell to check if anyone was home, then climbed into an upstairs window to enter the house.
We called the police; they took our story and checked with the kid. The kid said my son had answered the door and invited him in. Since it was his word against my son's, the cops said there was nothing they could do. The DA said that since the boy wasn't actually carrying the guitars out of the house when we caught him (although he was stacking them up to prepare to carry them out), they couldn't actually arrest him for theft.
After the cops spoke to the boy and decided not to arrest him, someone came by the house and broke our upstairs window (I wonder who would have done that!). We've since put a lock on the closet and are going to burglar-proof the windows (and the fence he climbed to reach the upstairs window)
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Ten of Pentacles (reversed)
Three of Swords (reversed)
We've seen the Ten of Pentacles several times in the last month or so -- I think the repetition is meaningful. This is a message we might want to strongly consider.
The Ten of Pentacles refers to fiscal or physical success and contentment. This is a goal we probably all seek. Some folks get lucky and reach this goal early in life; most of us have to work much harder and much longer. We don't always reach our goals -- but that doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying. Sometimes it's more important that we're heading in the right direction, even if we don't make it to the final destination.
Our second car -- the Three of Swords -- adds a little to this message. It reminds us that we're likely to have disappointments along the way as we seek our ultimate goal. This is a normal occurrence -- it's going to happen to almost all of us. More than once, too. Maybe even over and over again. That doesn't mean we should abandon our goal -- it just means we can expect to encounter some rocky roads along our journey and we'll just have to work our way through them.
The reversals on both of these cards likely refer to scale and delay. We're not talking about things that will happen today or tomorrow, but are talking about what we might expect while seeking our life goals. Over a long period of time, we'll encounter some reversals -- but we'll also have successes along the way.
Don't get discouraged by short-term setbacks; it's the long-term goals and successes that matter!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. As always, if you're interested in a private reading, please try my sponsors above or my list of readers at http://www.woodsongtarot.com/readers.html .
Woodsong Reading - Post Hurricane Rita
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well -- we've had a little bit of a hurricane adventure over here. Things aren't quite settled yet, but they are looking better.
We had decided to weather the hurricane at home in Katy; about 1:30 last Thursday morning, we saw the revised hurricane Rita path was going to pass directly over our house, so we decided to evacuate instead. By that time, all the roads north and west out of Houston were already totally clogged, so we went east instead to Baton Rouge.
We escaped the terrible traffic problems the other 3 million suffered, but it still took 9 hours to make a 5 hour trip. Of course, Hurricane Rita shifted course again to miss Houston and clobber the Texas/Louisiana border instead. We had some strong winds in Baton Rouge, lost some trees, and were without power for four days.
We finally headed back home late Tuesday night -- stacked 15 gas cans on top of the car and made the trip. For about 45 miles each side of the border, it looked like a black hole. No power, no lights, empty cities, no gas, no nothing. Lake Charles and Beaumont were completely empty and closed. Much of the developed land south of Interstate 10 just wasn't there anymore -- it was a very scary sight.
Got back home for a few hours, then had to jump on a flight to Ohio for work reasons. Still haven't caught up on missed sleep.
I think the lesson here is that you simply can't evacuate a large city in a couple of days. If it happens again, we're staying home. Most of the people in Texas who died from the hurricane died on the highways in the traffic jams -- scary.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
King of Swords (reversed)
Strength (reversed)
The King of Swords suggest competence, capability, and knowledge. The King of Swords always knows the right thing to do. Problem is, he's also a little impatient -- the right course is obvious to him and he feels it should be obvious to everyone else. When you ask him a question, his answer is usually "What a dumb question -- you should know the answer!"
The thing is, he's usually right -- we normally do know the answer, we just don't want to admit or accept it. It might not be the answer we'd like, but we still know what's right. Since our King is reversed, I think this is really emphasized -- if something is troubling us, we probably know the best way to address it, but we might not want to accept that answer.
Our next card, Strength, can help us pin this down. The Strength card doesn't really mean physical strength, it speaks more of inner strength of conviction and purpose. Strength would accept a course of action if it felt it was the right thing to do -- but a reversed Strength might have difficulty accepting what we really know is right ... just like our reversed King.
I think these two cards simply emphasize the same message -- if something is troubling us, we probably already know the best course of action to address the problem. But ... we may find it difficult to accept the answer -- perhaps it would force us to look in places we'd rather ignore. Perhaps we feel we might fail; perhaps we feel it would be too difficult. These may all be true -- but that doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do. Sometimes there is no easy way out ... just the right way out. We need to be prepared to take the hard road at times -- and the payoff is usually worth it.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's begun well -- we're watching Hurricane Rita very closely. When you look at the five-day forecast, Houston's right in the middle of the bullseye!
My part of town (west side, on the prairie) is pretty safe from rising water. Houston itself is about 40 miles from the Gulf, so storm surge shouldn't be a problem. Our main concern is high winds. However, as we found out in Tropical Storm Allison a few years back, when you drop 36 inches of rain in four hours on one spot, it's going to flood!
I was actually supposed to be in Columbus, Ohio Friday, returning late Friday night. If the storm continues, though, the airport will likely be closed. I'm hoping to push my visit back to next week instead.
On a brighter note, we're getting ready for the Texas Renaissance festival; planning on going in a couple of weeks. My daughter's sewing her own costume this year; I'm trying to convince her that serving wenches didn't wear miniskirts back then. It's not getting through, though.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Ten of Pentacles
Five of Wands
We've seen the Ten of Pentacles just a week or so ago. I mentioned then that Tens usually suggest the logical culmination of the aspects of a suit. Since Pentacles refer to financial and physical matters, this Ten suggests the achievement and enjoyment of financial or physical well-being.
This is a nice place to be -- and a nice goal to have! The real attraction is the feeling that you've arrived at a successfuly completion and can now enjoy the stress-free rewards of that condition.
The Five of Wands does add a bit to this message, though. It's really a reminder -- while the Ten of Pentacles is a wonderful goal, you'd better expect to work if you want to achieve it -- it's not going to be given to you!
Still, we shouldn't get distracted or dismayed at the struggle necessary to achieve success. Struggle is ... well, they call it "struggle" for a reason, don't they! That doesn't mean there aren't benefits and payoffs. Struggle makes us stronger, struggle makes us enjoy and respect our accomplishments, struggle makes us respect and believe in ourselves. Struggle is the normal condition -- it's not the universe picking on us, it's the way things are supposed to be!
And it does yield ultimate rewards -- like the Ten of Pentacles. If the goal is worthwhile, then the work necessary to achieve that goal is just as worthwhile!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well -- I'm in Dallas this week. I'm staying in a hotel that's full of New Orleans refugees; it's really been interesting talking to them.
I'm not going to dwell on Katrina stuff -- I'm sure we're all getting our full from the normal news -- but I did want to pass along a cute story I heard.
Much of the land around New Orleans is rural; many of the people there had horses. They weren't able to evacuate the horses; many didn't make it as the water rose up past their stables. However, many were able to break free to try and save theirselves.
One particular group of horses broke out of their stalls and made it to high ground. After the storm passed, they had nothing to eat. So ... the troup of horses kept roving along the high ground till they made it to a store -- a feed store! They kicked open the door, went inside, and proceeded to have themselves a fine feast until they were finally rescued several days later.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Six of Swords (Reversed)
Seven of Pentacles (Reversed)
The Six of Swords is concerned with change -- or at least, with one particular part of change. Have you ever been in a situation where you decided a change was due? As you're progressing with the change (maybe a move, maybe a job change, maybe a relationship change, maybe ... etc), you may have second thoughts and start wondering if you're doing the right thing? Perhaps you start looking back and thinking "well, maybe things weren't that bad?" or "I wonder if I'm making the right choice?"
It's normal to be uncomfortable when we're leaving a known situation for a new and unknown environment -- even if the old known situation wasn't all that enjoyable! The Six of Swords recognizes this little anxious feeling we may have when we consider change. It's important to realize this is a normal feeling -- change is good when we select it for the right reasons. Still, we're going to feel a little antsy when we start to realize this change.
As we all know, once we've completed the change and become more comfortable with our new choice, the anxiety goes away. Even though we know this will happen, we still go through this anxious and uneasy period -- it's normal.
Since this Six is reversed, it suggests we may be a little leary of considering change because we're uneasy about leaving a known situation for an unknown situation. We might consider our next card, the Seven of Pentacles, to help us think about our feelings.
The Seven of Pentacles suggests we consider our physical and fiscal well-being. If the change will help us in either of these areas, then it's likely worth the anxiety to go ahead and consider adopting the change. Our overall situation may be better after the change; this advance in our prospects makes it easier to become comfortable with our choice.
So ... if you're in a position where you may have an option to consider change, but are uneasy about doing so because of the unknowns ... you may want to give a little extra attention to any physical or fiscal benefits you may gain because of the change. These prospects may help you make the choice that works best for you.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading
I hope your week's been going well -- things are pretty hectic here in the South. Houston's got about 250,000 Katrina folks in town -- most of them being folks who were able to escape New Orleans before the storm although the news mainly covers the 15,000 evacuees in the Astrodome. All the stores are pretty jammed -- went to the grocery store the other day and it was packed like it was holiday-cooking time. Same thing at the mall -- clothes stores, electronics, furniture (my sister sells furniture -- she sold as much in one day last week as she normally does in a month), real estate (my son's a realtor -- he's been doing volunteer work at the shelters trying to help folks find apartments and homes), house supplies, etc.
We can get email into our family in Baton Rouge, but still can't get through on the phone. I hear Baton Rouge has grown by about 350,000 people -- more than double their pre-Katrina population!
Back in the early 1900's, Galveston was the leading city in Texas. Center of culture, architecture, commerce, etc. A hurricane pretty much wiped out the city ("Isaac's Storm"). The city rebuilt, but it took long enough to recover (plus many folks didn't want to live there anymore) that it lost it's prominence as the number one town in Texas. It's now a sleepy little beach town while Houston has grown into the commercial monster.
I wonder if the same thing will happen with Baton Rouge and New Orleans? It will take time to rebuild New Orleans -- in the meantime, commerce must continue. Baton Rouge is a deep water Mississippi river port (meaning it can handle the large ocean-going ships and tankers) and it may handle much of the work previously done in New Orleans. New Orleans folks are buying homes and enrolling their kids in B.R. schools -- putting down roots. Plus, I wonder how many people will want to go back to New Orleans? Could be that Baton Rouge (now the largest city in Louisiana) may supercede New Orleans as the state's main city.
Baton Rouge trivia: The dollar sign ($) was first devised and used in Baton Rouge! I believe it was a Spanish clerk who came up with it.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Page of Cups (Reversed)
Ten of Pentacles
The Page of Cups suggests the beginnings of an emotional attachment. It's not yet a committment, but it is an earnest interest. Some of these develop into greater emotional concerns -- perhaps ones that can provide a base of good feelings for the remainder of your life. Some don't go that far -- and some don't really go anywhere at all! Still, you've got to start somewhere -- and just because most won't develop doesn't mean you should avoid them. In fact, if you don't invest some time in these initial emotional considerations, they'll never have an opportunity to grow.
Our second card is the Ten of Pentacles. Ten's suggest the logical culmination of the aspects of a suit. Since Pentacles refer to financial and physical matters, this Ten suggests the achievement and enjoyment of financial or physical well-being. It doesn't really suggest wild spending sprees; it more suggests the freedom of stress from having to worry about these types of matters.
I was watching an episode of Gene Simmon's Rock School the other day (I'm not only a sucker for reality TV, I'm really a sucker for musical reality TV!). He was participating in a debate with the students of the school (subject: Rock and Roll has no place in modern society). He had suggested that rock music was basically today's folk music; he also said it was a commercially viable product and that he had earned quite a bit of money in rock music. One of the student's replied "Yes, but money isn't everything."
Not to debate whether this statement is trite nonsense or deep wisdom -- but you might go one step further and ask "If it's not everything, then what missing pieces do I need to add?"
I think this two card spread suggests an answer. If we want to enjoy financial well-being, then we have to have emotional assets to rely on. If we don't have emotional attachments, then financial or physical well-being is rather hollow. If we have developed emotional matters, then we can most enjoy them in the reduced stress environment of physical well-being.
So -- if you have great goals in life, it's okay to have money or health goals. But, be sure you don't ignore your heart as you progress along your journey!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week.

Woodsong Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well -- I've been captivated by the news from New Orleans and Biloxi. Haven't really been able to concentrate on anything else.
I used to live in New Orleans -- I remember the big fear about hurricanes wasn't the rain or the wind; it was that a storm would hit just east of the city. That way, the leading winds heading west would push water from Lake Pontchartrain up against the west back (where there was nowhere for the water to go), then southerly winds after the storm passed would push this pileup of water south against the levee. That's exactly what happened this time; it's a total worst-case scenario.
We spent the weekend watching hurricane coverage on the various cable channels. I think Fox News was the best, followed closely by MSNBC. CNN wasn't bad, but The Weather Channel was the absolute worst! Their hurricane "expert" was so clueless that it was almost criminal. At one point when it was plain the eye would pass to the east of New Orleans (see previous paragraph!), the "expert" proclaimed "Well, that's good news for New Orleans. This will mean only some brief flooding from rain." Was his name Dr. Steve Lyons? I'm always leary of people who insist on the "Dr" part -- usually indicates they're short on ability so they make up for it with credentials.
The story from these hurricane-stricken areas is going to get much, much worse. New Orleans may never recover. I'm still shocked when I look at the coverage. The website http://www.nola.com is going strong with pretty good local coverage.
I believe I skipped the reading a while back when the tsunami hit; it's probably appropriate to do the same thing here. I just wanted you to know I didn't forget about you. I'll be back again next week with a reading; I hope you're doing well and please send some good wishes down to the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi!

Hi there!
I hope your week's begun well -- it's hot and humid here in Houston. Actually, you could just cut and paste that weather description of Houston and use it over and over again most any day of the year.
Finally got around to reading the new Harry Potter the other day. I had been saving it for a time when I could read it all in one swoop. Finally got a day where I knew I was going to be sitting in airports all day. Perfect time for Harry Potter!
This one's my favorite so far. It sets you up perfectly for the final upcoming book -- you know the gloves are coming off and the battle between good and evil is finally going to be resolved. I had forgotten all about one of the major characters being killed off (I'm not giving anything away -- this had been announced long ago), so it was a surprise when it happened. I'm really looking forward to the final book!
Other than Harry, I've just finished reading all the books in the Horatio Hornblower series (C.S. Forester). I've been reading a lot of Napoleanic history recently, so this fit right in. Really enjoyed them. I haven't been able to get into the Pat O'Brien novels as much (Russel Crowe did a movie on "Master and Commander" not long ago); also saw where Dudley Pope has a similar series to Hornblower with his "Ramage" series. Grabbed his first one and will give it a try.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Four of Cups (Reversed)
Four of Pentacles
This first card's an interesting one -- I look at the Four of Cups as suggesting discontent with current events. It also suggests a strong malaise or sense of ennui. What makes this card interesting is that it is reversed. Reverals usually suggest some type of distortion of the card's message. If we take a card that has a slightly negative connotation and distort it, we could end up with a more positive message! Rather than a card suggesting a slow down and discouragement, we have a message of action and interest.
Our second card helps us refine things. The Four of Pentacles is really a warning card -- it reminds us not to shut ourselves away from the outside world. For instance, if we concentrate only on those things around us, we may become discouraged (the Four of Cups). However, if we expand our interest to the larger set of opportunities presented by the world at large, we find many things than can interest us.
In fact, that's probably how we should look at this reading -- from the back forwards. The Four of Cups represents what might happen if we succumb to the lure of the Four of Pentacles. The reversal suggests we strive to NOT let this happen. If your immediate situation looks grim, then expand your options. Reconsider the parameters of your situation -- you don't have to accept what's presented to you. If you don't like your options, then see what you can do to change them. Once you actively take part in changing and selecting the options available to you, you concentrate more on active growth and less on introspective limitations.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well -- I'm still trying to get my back door installed. Got stood up last Wednesday, last Friday, and again yesterday. Giving the installers another try this afternoon. I've got this huge piece of plywood nailed over the hole in the door -- I think I like the plywood version of the door better than when it was full of glass.
Went to San Antonio this past weekend for some Riverwalking, Margaritas, and back-to-school clothes shopping. The outlet malls north of town always have great deals and the clothes are different styles from what we can find around here -- making my daughter happy.
Got sleepy on the drive back and stopped for coffee -- realized that Texas coffee isn't really very good. Way too weak. The proliferation of Starbucks means you can find good coffee anywhere now, but it used to be quite different. Louisiana coffee was consistently good (Community Coffee -- we used to give it for presents to our out-of-state friends!), but many others were just too weak. If you can see the bottom of the cup when it's full, then it's too weak.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Seven of Pentacles (Reversed)
The Empress
The Seven of Pentacles often suggests pausing and evaluating your current position. Whenever you evaluate a situation, you may determine to continue your present course - or to make changes. Since the card is reversed, it could suggest difficulties in making this evaluation -- perhaps something is blocking you from viewing your situation fairly and impartially. It could also suggest some reluctance to change if you feel that change is necessary.
Lets use our second card to get a finer tune. The Empress is an earthy card -- it revels in the senses and the pleasures of the body and the earth. It can suggest a kind, mothering influence. Normally, this card encourages us to embrace our connection with the world of nature.
The Empress might suggest we consider our connection with family when we perform our Seven of Pentacles evaluation -- particularly those family who rely on us for care. It could also suggest we consider our interaction with the physical, earthy world when we consider possible enhancements to our course of action. Perhaps we might spend a little more time enjoying the outdoors; perhaps we might try to relax by gardening or planning some new landscaping. If our evalution shows that something is missing from out lives, then we should strongly consider the Empress when we look for those missing pieces.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading
Hi there!
I hope your week's been going well -- things are finally settling down a bit over here. Hurricane Emily came through and fizzled -- all we got was a tiny bit of rain (which we really needed!)
We had doctor visits Monday, Dallas trip Tuesday, Wednesday morning spent waiting for the door installer (who never showed up), and Wednesday afternoon standing in line at the Motor Vehicle Registration office (turns out my son never bothered to renew his vehicle registration).
That's the second time the door installers stood me up. The last time, they did the "Oh, we must have lost the order" bit and promised to have someone at my house first thing Wednesday morning. When the guy never showed, I called them and they did the "Oh, we never said FIRST THING Wednesday morning, we say sometime Wednesday". They got fired real fast. The new installer's are coming Friday.
Our back door is one of those that has little panes of glass all the way from top to bottom. Last week, we noticed a small hole in the lower left pane -- just about the size and shape of my daughter's shoe. Of course, no one knows how it got there! My dogs quickly busted out the rest of the pane. Bailey (goofy Golden Retriever) jumped through the hole and pranced all over the house; Princess (overweight Border Collie) tried to do the same and got stuck half-way through. At least the cats couldn't escape because the hole was plugged with a dog!
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
The Chariot (Reversed)
Ten of Swords
I've been reading a lot of histories of Napoleon, Waterloo, and the Duke of Wellington lately. One thing that really comes out is Napoleon's and the Duke's will-power. They decide something will happen and then they proceed to make that so. Where other more sensible people would have jumped ship, these two focused on their goals and stayed the course.
That's kind of the attribute suggested by the Chariot -- focusing on a goal and using your will power to make it happen. (Or, as my son puts it, just being stubborn and pig-headed -- sometimes this is a good thing!) The reversal suggests a distortion. The Chariot believes in his goal and believes in his ability to attain that goal -- the reversal could suggest a lack of belief in either the goal or in your prospects of reaching that goal.
Let's take a peek at our next card for some more ideas.
Many people consider the Ten of Swords to be the "worst" card in the deck. It basically says "Yes, things are about as bad as they can be". If you think about it a bit, though, you'll see this is actually a good thing! If things are at their worst, then they can only get better!
I think that brings the message around -- just because past failures make things look gloomy, you shouldn't assume failure will automatically continue. Find a goal, reach for it, remain "pig-headed" about it -- and you might be very pleasantly surprised!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Hi there!
I hope your week's begun well; our weekend was a little hectic because of Hurricane Dennis. Not that we caught it -- but that we hosted some folks from Louisiana who had evacuated just in case.
Turns out Dennis was a fizzle -- Louisiana was hardly affected. For instance, whenever a hurricane threatens, electric utility companies from many surrounding states send all their utility trucks to the target area. The crews will stay for weeks helping to get electricity back up again. Anyway, I was driving back from Louisiana yesterday and saw a caravan of utility trucks returning from Florida -- because they weren't needed!
And -- oh, that drive! I had to drive my son's Jeep Wrangler with the lifted body and the big knobby tires -- and no shocks! If you can imagine sitting in a paint mixing machine for 6 hours while teenagers battered you with baseball bats and a jet engine screamed in your ears, you'll have an idea of what the drive was like. I'm still worn out today.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Three of Wands (Reversed)
Ace of Pentacles (Reversed)
I generally view the Three of Wands as relating to business and commerce -- it suggests the confidence and patience to take the long-term view. If you're confident and aren't hoping for a quick fix, then you're also comfortable and contented -- because you know things will work out. The reversal suggests a distortion of this message -- perhaps even a reversal of the message. Let's examine our second card to follow this further.
The Ace of Pentacles -- like all aces -- suggests the beginning of something new. Being a Pentacle, the area of suggestion leans towards fiscal or physical matters. Again, the reversal suggests a distortion or delay.
When we put the two reversed cards together, we see the possibility of a new fiscal or physical project -- along with the confidence and patience to see it through. EXCEPT -- that all the cards are reversed! This suggests we might find it difficult to be patient and confident -- which then suggests it will be difficult to attain the promise of the Ace of Pentacles.
Quick fixes are great ... but you really can't count on them. Slow and Steady does really seem to win the race. We may be more assured of gaining rewards on far horizons -- all we have to do is remain confident and patient.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week.
