Woodsong Reading

Greetings,
Hope you had a nice weekend -- spent most of our's ferrying kids back and forth.
Wanted to clear up my American Idol babble last week -- when I said I picked Scott over Constantine, I didn't mean I was picking him to win, just to last longer in the competition. Looked like a good pick at a time when Constantine was singing Partridge Family tunes; now that he's achieving Greek God status, I'm not so sure anymore.
My sister got a new electric pressure cooker, so we were at her house this weekend trying it out. Discovered she has never been to the Riverwalk in San Antonio (even though she's lived in Houston much longer than I have!). So, we've got a trip planned for the Memorial Day weekend. Will probably be too crowded, but the Riverwalk's a great place to sit and let the crowds flow past you (just make sure you're not sitting under a tree full of pigeons!)
Also wanted to mention that I noticed my old Yahoo Groups Woodsong Reading list is still collecting members -- even though I haven't used Yahoo Groups to send the reading for several years! I sent a brief announcement to this old list suggesting that they resign up through my website. If you received this announcement, then you're already where you need to be ... there's no need to sign up again!
Also, wanted to say we've got a new sponsor this week -- why not give them a peek!

---------------------
We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Page of Wands (Reversed)
Page of Swords (Reversed)
Well, this is interesting -- two Pages, both reversed! In general, I like Pages. They suggest innocense, excitement, and energy, no cynicism at all. It's not that Pages don't think about defeat, it's that they're completely unaware of the possibility!
So, I normally see Pages are fairly positive cards. There are some issues to work out before you can get them working to your benefit, but the building blocks are all there. Because of this, I usually view Page reversals a little more favorable than other card reversals. I almost always see them as delays -- simply saying that you've got to straighten things out a bit before you can move ahead.
That's pretty much it this time, too. I'm not too concerned about the reversals ... and I see the double Pages as suggesting the availability of a great untapped pool of energy.
Our first card, the Page of Wands, is a lot of fun. It suggests really creative thinking -- maybe even daring. This card often suggests risks -- and the confidence to face those risks. It's usually okay to take those risks -- because even it doesn't work out, you'll learn from the setback and will be able to do even better next time.
The Page of Swords (our second card), suggests being enthusiastic about a new idea or concept. It also suggests the energy and excitement found when you do become absorbed by something. This page's problem is that he tends to jump from idea to idea; he's not a great one for sticking things out.
When you look at the two Page's, you see how they both suggest the possibility of exciting actions -- if you have confidence in yourself and your ideas. The delays suggested by the reversals are perhaps caused by a lack of this sort of confidence.
What can cause us to lack confidence? I think the main one is a fear of failure -- what will happen if we don't succeed? One way to combat this is to simply NOT bet the farm! Don't risk more than you're willing to lose -- in time, money, prestige, face, etc. That way, the pressure to not fail is reduced. If you do lose, then so what. It's nothing you weren't willing to lose; furthermore, the knowledge and experience you'll gain will make it more than worthwhile.
It's surprising that a sequence of failures can actually build your confidence! If you learn from your failures, you begin to believe in ways you can improve yourself and your abilities. This makes you more and more confident in your ultimate success.
And that sort of confidence is what can upright reversed Pages! Be willing to try, be willing to learn -- and you'll find that you're excited and energized about your prospects.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Greetings,
Hope your week's started off well ... mine's been pretty quiet.

I was supposed to travel this week, but two clients cancelled at the last minute, so I'm just sitting around doing nothing. Planted some hydrangeas yesterday -- that's the high point of the week so far!

Looking forward to American Idol tonight. I'm in an "American Idol" pool. We have to pick the top 5 and also the 10th person. I picked Nikko as #10, but he went #9. I did have Nadia leaving early, and most of the others in the pool had her in the top 5. Most of us also had Jessica in the top 5, so I'm in a multi-way tie for 2nd place right now.

Don't think my luck will last, though. I picked Scott over Constantine -- which looked like a good pick at the time, but really stinks about now. Oh well...

How about a quick word from our sponsor, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Knight of Wands (Reversed)

Death

I personally identify pretty strongly with the Knight of Wands -- it's a real "Ready, Fire, Aim" type of card and I always tend to act before I think everything through. One great thing about this card is that it is loaded with energy and excitement -- it just can't wait to get moving. When my kids were little and they'd get real anxious and would start jumping up and down because they just couldn't wait anymore, we said they were full of "gotta move, gotta move!" That's the sort of energy in this card -- it fills you up so much that you really want to get in motion!

The Knight of Wands is a great fit for moving on and seeking out new challenges and opportunities. It doesn't really suggest cleaning up existing matters first -- it kind of ignores existing matters and lets them drop (a shortcoming of this card). However, since this Knight rarely looks back, this normally doesn't become an issue.

Note that this Knight likes to move from known situations into unknown situations -- not necessarily the most comfortable thing to do. However, it seems that this extra liveliness helps make life so much more enjoyable and interesting. The converse of this is that if you don't move forward -- by sticking in the past -- you may miss much of what life offers.

This might be where we're sitting -- because our Knight is reversed. This distorts or twists the message -- and the reversal could suggest this sort of hindrance or resistance.

Let's take a peek at our next card to see how we might consider this. "Death" really doesn't mean "death" -- it means change. Change as in the "end of something old and the beginning of something new". You could look at this as suggesting a great opportunity awaiting -- as change is how we grow.

This card also suggests the existence of the supporting attributes necessary to help us achieve this change. Things like focus and confidence. All we need is energy!

Which, of course, is available in spades from our Knight of Wands. Perhaps we can combine the suggestion from the "Death" card that opportunity is available to us -- and this suggestion may be enough to unlock the excitement and energy of our reversed Knight?

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Greetings,

Hope your week's been going well -- it's been a "catch up" week for me and I've actually pretty much "caught up" with things! Since I had some extra time, I thought I'd send an extra reading this week.

Just got a call from the auto shop. My son had brought his Jeep Wrangler in for an oil change. This is the Jeep one with the jacked-up body and huge tires. I need to stand on something to climb into it. When he first got it, he went mudding every day -- and ended out destroying the transmission because he never changed the transmission fluid or filters. (This is the same son who invented potty-hockey). Important safety tip -- if you drive a four-wheel-drive in mud or water, you MUST change your transmission fluid!

Anyway, after talking to the auto repair guy, it sounds like my son's never changed the engine oil, either. "Black and thin" was how it was described. My older son is mechanical-savvy -- he's pretty good about changing his oil every 3000 miles or so. Second son is mechanical-doofus.

My youngest sister had a Chevy Blazer that she never changed the oil in. It went about 30,000 miles before the motor completely fried. This was my mechanical-savvy sister, too -- I never understood quite how this came about.

Hmmm ... come to think about it, I'm about due for a change in my truck, too. Oh well, I guess I'm not as "caught up" as I thought I was!

How about a quick word from our sponsor, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Three of Pentacles (Reversed)

Ten of Swords

The Three of Pentacles is a “work” card - or more appropriately, a “joy of work” card. It suggests that the act of being creative and productive can be a source of great comfort. This is a realistic, practical card - it’s rooted in the material world. It suggests all the things necessary to be productive and successful - concentration, focus, motivation, and energy.

Being reversed, the message is distorted. What I think it's saying here is to examine if a work-related matter is a source of frustration rather than joy.

Anything like that? Something that's just dragging on and won't go away? Maybe something that you just can't complete satisfactorily. How about something that you just don't want to do -- you're unable to get into it?

Let's look at our second card for a tip about what we might do.

Many people feel that the Ten of Swords might be the worst card in the deck In one sense, this card suggests reaching the absolute bottom - a situation has gotten so bad it cannot get any worse. If you think about it, though, this is actually a positive message! If things cannot get any worse, that means they can only get better!

In fact, the deeper meaning of this card is that you’ve passed through the worst of the conflict and have reached a turning point. This card is often a message to look for opportunity in the face of your adversity - this is where opportunity often hides.

When we tie this in with our reversed Three, the apparent message is that if identify a work-related matter that's frustrating us, then we can turn it around. If things can't get worse, then they can only get better.

What I think this says is that we may need an attitude fix. Rather than letting a vexing situation get the best of us, go into things knowing that we can make it work. Perhaps all we need is a slight attitude-adjustment to get things back on track?

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Greetings,

Hope your week's begun well ... I always have trouble with this Daylight Savings thing. I know it's only an hour, but I feel like I need about three hours of extra sleep to catch up!

Spent the weekend in Louisiana visiting relatives -- had a real nice time. Drove back on some country roads in Louisiana before hitting the interstate. Along the way, passed the most notorious speed trap in Louisiana.

Can't remember if the town's name is Woodville or Wordworth -- anyway, it's a tiny little town ... not really a town, because there's no town center or downtown, just an area of country and a handful of homes that've been organized into a municipality. Anyway, it straddles the path to a popular recreational park (Indian Creek).

You're driving along on country roads with speed limits varying between 55 and 45. All of a sudden, the speed limit drops to 25 for about a quarter of a mile. The speed limit sign announcing the change is partially hidden by some bushes and most people miss it; there's no change in scenery (it's still a country road) like businesses or houses to clue you the road conditions are different (because they're not different).

The Woodville (worth?) cop is almost always waiting nearby with his radar gun!

I remember before I moved to Texas from Louisiana that the legislature decided to crack down on small-town speed traps (I guess they caught one too many state representatives!). They listed them all and decided that Woodville was the worst of the state.

The Woodville mayor came and pleaded for them not to take action. The "town" derived virtually all of it's revenue from the speed trap. He promised they'd clean it up themselves.

I never heard what happened -- although the last time I went to Indian Creek, the local police car was still hidden and waiting at the speed trap!

How about a quick word from our sponsor, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Eight of Cups

Ace of Pentacles

Seems like we've been seeing a lot of "change" cards lately -- and the Eight of Cups is another one.

This Eight has a slightly different spin -- it's not so much that it's suggesting a change, it's suggesting that some path or course of action you've been following has reached an end. Doesn't necessarily mean it's been completed, just that perhaps it's time to leave things as they are and look for something new.

Sometimes you've gained the most you're going to gain before you reach the end -- this might be a good time to consider and evaluate things you've been pursuing. Have some reached a plateau? Do some feel like the effort to see them through won't be worth what you'll gain?

The Ace of Pentacles follows next -- and it's a logical progression. Aces of any suit generally suggest something new -- and this fits in well with the message of our Eight.

The Ace of Pentacles tends to refer to fiscal or physical matters. Perhaps a new excercise routine? Eating healthier? Drinking more water and less xxx? Maybe reviewing your budget on a regular basis? Budget areas you can firm up? Stock purchase or savings plans? Does your work offer a 401K or some other sort of savings plan? Perhaps you might review your participation and see if you can improve things?

Bottom line is that these two cards suggest you find areas where you can make progress. Progress by cutting loose on tacks that might be holding you back and also by looking for new areas where you can improve.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week.
