Greetings,
Hope your week's started off well! I'm back in Peoria again -- had a real short weekend (in late Friday night, back out again early Sunday). I'm ready for a little bit of rest.
Peoria's a nice little city, but the airport leaves a lot to be desired. I like to arrive at the airport early so I can avoid the rush, clear security, and just sit, read, and relax at the gate. For some unfathomable reason, airport security in Peoria completely clears the terminal before each flight, then CLOSES DOWN until just before flights go out!?!?!
This means everyone waiting for a flight is standing in a long line at the closed security gate. When they finally do open, you've only got a few minutes to clear security and make your flight. It basically means that if you have a 12:30 flight, you're not going to be able to clear security until about 12:00 -- even if you get there at 10:00 to avoid the rush!
I guess I could understand if security personnel were only scheduled to work at these times (understand, but not agree), but they're all sitting around at the closed-off x-ray machines while they're closed down. Makes absolutely no sense to me at all.
I generally find that the smaller the airport is, the more completely ridiculous security is.
How about a quick word from our sponsors, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
King of Cups
The Hermit
Different readers handle face cards in different ways. Some readers I respect a lot claim that a face card always always ALWAYS suggests a real person you'll interact with. Others feel that face cards simply indicate certain attributes and personality traits to consider. I tend to agree with the second group -- although sometimes I find the first group is spot on.
Let's think about what the King of Cups suggests; first -- being a Cup -- this is a compassionate card, second -- being a King -- this is a mature and wise card. The King of Cups respects others and is tolerant and broad-minded. This King doesn't overly react -- it tends to be calm and measured. This King sees what's wonderful and unique in each and every person. This King doesn't threaten others -- and he's not threatened by others. He's a wonderful mediator -- because he doesn't get overly emotional; because he cares about each side, he strives to say just the right thing to smooth out troubled situations.
Sounds like a great guy, right? I have a brother-in-law who fits this description completely. Never gets upset about anything, never is in a hurry, never is stressed out or tense. We figure he'll live to be hundred or so because he's so calm.
I think this set of attributes is something to strive for. We could all stand to be a little more tolerant, a little more understanding, a little more compassionate. Not only will it help out the other guy, it'll help us live a happier, less stressful life.
While I know this probably sounds like a good goal, I also know it's not always that easy to be so understanding and tolerant. Let's check out next card for things to consider that might make it easier to be a King of Cups.
The Hermit is looking for answers -- and he knows that he'll find those answers within himself. The Hermit is street-smart; his wisdom comes from his life experiences. The Hermit is only interested in truth -- he's not going to try and fool himself. When he's wrong, he knows it, admits it, and tries to correct it.
So ... when we put these cards together, we see the King of Cups being presented as a fine goal to strive for. We also might consider that it could be a difficult goal to achieve. The Hermit helps us here -- it tells us we should reach for this goal -- regardless of the difficulty -- because we know deep inside ourselves that this is the right thing to do. If something's the right thing to do, then the difficulty really shouldn't matter.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. As always, if you're interested in a private reading, please try my sponsors above or my list of readers at http://www.woodsongtarot.com/readers.html .

Weekly Tarot Reading
Greetings,
Hope your week's started off well! I had my days on the beach last week -- and it's back to real life this week in Peoria, Illinois. It was really hard to fly in here from Houston; I think I'll probably fly in to Chicago and drive if I ever have to come back -- looks to be about a 2 or 3 hour drive.
Was watching the Food channel this weekend (they had a chocolate marathon!) and watched them make a strawberry trifle. They did something really interesting with the strawberries -- rather than soak them with sugar, they soaked them with balsamic vinegar! I had to give it a try -- 'course, I also put a little powdered sugar and some honey mead to go along with the balsamic vinegar. Wow -- it really gave the strawberries a special kick!
How about a quick word from our sponsors, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Knight of Pentacles
Seven of Swords
This is an interesting spread -- because the two cards represent opposites. We normally look to the second card to supply supporting attributes to better enjoy the message in the first card -- this'll be neat to see how it turns out.
The Knight of Pentacles is a solid, steady citizen. He's a plodder -- nothing fancy, nothing exciting, but he gets results by continually putting one foot in front of the other. This Knight is a rule-follower, not an innovator. He doesn't usually take short cuts -- not because he has anything against them, but because he's so focussed on his goal that he doesn't notice any short cuts!
The Seven of Swords usually means almost the exact opposite. This Seven seeks out short cuts -- he's also focussed on the goal, but he's very open about the methods he'll use. He's not afraid to take advantages whenever possible -- and if he has to bend a rule or two along the way, then he usually figures the end justifies the means.
With two such contrasting cards, where can we find a message. If we look a little deeper, we see that the Knight actually has one advantage over the Seven. If the Seven loses -- he loses. He's gained nothing from his efforts -- and may even feel ashamed about some of the methods he's tried. If the Knight loses -- he still gains because he's done everything aboveboard. The Knight always stays true to his principles -- and he constantly re-emphasizes this through his actions.
I think the message we get here is that we should pay attention to the methods we use as well as keeping focus on our goals. We're not always going to reach our goals -- that's just fact. Doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying -- and it also suggests that since we will fail occasionally, we should try to keep ourselves in a position where we can hold our head up even if we fail. As we reinforce our principles, we'll find it easier to be successful.

New Reading
(Hi -- I thought I'd start posting the email readings in this medium -- here goes the latest one! -- Woodsong)
Greetings,
Hope your week's started off well and that your favorite commercial won in the big game yesterday! I confess that I had the TV on, but only paid attention during the commercials. (Well, and during the Paul McCartney half-time show!)
I'm in Dania Beach, Florida right now -- just south of Fort Lauderdale. It seems to be a pretty quiet place -- I think it must be a big retirement community. I know that everyone drives real slow around here. Whatever the speed limit is, divide by half to get an idea.
I'm usually a pretty impatient driver, so I'm having to work to adjust. It is kind of nice once you get used to it. I don't know that I got the right rental car for the club, though. As I was driving to the hotel, I noted the three Cadillac Fleetwoods in front of me were going about 15 mph in a 30 mph speed zone; the two Cadillac Fleetwoods on the side of me kept me hemmed in so I couldn't have passed even if I wanted to. I didn't have to worry about tail-gater's though -- the two Cadillac Fleetwoods in back of me stayed pretty far back!
How about a quick word from our sponsors, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Eight of Cups (Reversed)
Five of Pentacles
Didn't we just see the Eight of Cups a few weeks ago? I don't recall if it was reversed, though. In short, the Eight of Cups suggests that maybe it's a good time to consider a change of path. It might be because you've taken your current path as far as it's going to go, it might be because you'll find more interesting and challenging growth opportunities along a new path, or it might just mean it's a good time to try and break out of a rut you're stuck in!
Change is usually tough -- and we usually resist it (even if it's good for us!). That's likely the reason for the reversal -- a reluctance to consider change. Let's look at our second card for a clue about this.
The Five of Pentacles is a very interesting card -- at surface, it seems to suggest hardship and a lack of opportunity. When we look at it a little closer, though, we see that this is likely just an illusion. We actually do have strengths we can draw upon -- if we just look both within and around ourselves. If you're looking down, you won't spot the assets that lie around you; if you look up, you'll see them waiting for you!
When we put these together, it looks like we might resist considering avenues where change might help us because we might feel it's going to be too tough -- we might not have what's necessary to see it through. Rather than fail half-way through, we might lean towards sticking tight right where we are. If we consider the situation a little more thoroughly, though, we might see that we actually do have the assets we'll need to work through a situation that needs changing.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. As always, if you're interested in a private reading, please try my sponsors above or my list of readers at http://www.woodsongtarot.com/readers.html .

New Toy!
Got two new things in the last couple of days -- first is the remainder of my root canal (boo hiss), but the second's a little more fun ... a crystal ball!
I already had a small (2 inch) one -- but just never could connect with it. An unexpected check came in that wasn't already spent, so I decided to treat myself to a larger crystal ball -- it's about 6 inches in diameter.
I'm still setting up the right environment -- I've got just the right set of candles to surround it (and discovered the ball acts as a lens to concentrate the candle light ... just like a spotlight! Have to be careful not to arrange them so the light hits my eyes!) but still need a nice black cloth to cover the base.
I understand it may take several sessions before you're able to see things in the ball -- you've got to relax and empty your mind. That's always been hard for me to do -- although I'm more receptive at some times of the day than at others. Just means I'm going to have to practice and use some mind-clearing tricks that I used to use long ago.
I'll let you know when I start to have some success!

Enough time for a weekend reading
Not quite sure how it happened, but here it is, Thursday morning, and I actually have a few free hours AND I'm sitting at my laptop! Sounds like a weekend reading to me!
I missed last week, so I'm glad to be able to slip an extra tarot reading in this time. Mornings are always the best reading times for me -- I used to only have evenings free when I did personal readings and found them really tough to do. Things just flow so much easier in the morning. That's probably one of the bigger reasons I quit doing personal readings -- if I ever get to the point where I have two or three mornings free each week (or weekend), then I'll probably start doing personal tarot readings again.

Car Woes and pre-reading
Got car woes again! When I turn the key off in my main car, it still leaves the "auxilary" power turned on. This just started the other day. Problem is that aux power on means my air conditioner motor still turns a tiny bit -- even when it's turn off. End result is that it drains my battery within an hour or so.
Doesn't sound like a big deal, but I'm about at the end of my rope with this car. Put about $7000 into it last year on repairs and such -- which is a little more than the car is worth. I'm reluctant to keep putting money in -- if I knew this would be the last problem, then it'd be an easy decision. Since the recent track record has been minor troubles every month that add up over time though, I'm expecting more trouble in the future. Plus -- my sweetie scraped a concrete road divider and scratched up the passenger side (the entire side -- front to back). I just don't know if I wanna keep tossing money down this pit.
Pity, 'cause it's still a sweet-driving and looking car (Check it out here! ) ... but I think it's time to start looking around for another solution.
Also wanted to talk a little bit about what happens "pre-reading". As the week progresses, I try to look for things that I hope you'll find interesting that I can pass along in my "pre-reading" section. Sometimes I have to put things that I find interesting (if it's a "slow" week!), but you get the idea. I have good intentions -- but I often forget what I wanted to write about when reading time comes along!
I usually start preparing on Sunday -- I want to do the reading early in the morning. I shoot for Monday morning, but if I have other things that come up I push it back a day at a time. Quite often I'm near the end of the week before I know it. In these cases, I'll go ahead and do an afternoon or evening mailing ... but I always try for mornings first.
I really don't need much time for the reading -- what I need most is the right atmosphere. With three kids, work, and family demanding time, that's quite often the hard part. That's why my Monday intentions usually get pushed back to late-week rush!
I don't have a special reading "place" like a tarot table or cloth (used to use them, but couldn't keep them from getting cluttered by the rest of the family!) anymore -- I'll usually just sit in bed with the computer on my laptop. The deck I use is the Robin Wood Tarot Deck -- I've got over 100 decks, but this is my main "working" deck. I've had this particular deck for a long time -- and it's travelled around a bit, too. I take it with me when I travel -- especially if I'm going to a special spiritual or mystic place like Sedona, Glastonbury, Chaco Canyon, or Strawberry Fields in Central Park!
I'll shuffle the deck while trying to concentrate on "I'm interested in a general tarot reading -- looking for general guidelines and perspectives". I like to count down card in the deck -- whatever the date is, I'll count down that number of cards for the first card in the reading. I then repeat the count through the remainder of the deck for the second card.
Once I've got the two drawn, I like to take a little time to think about the two cards. I start thinking of as many possible interpretations as I can -- and then let the "right" one filter to the top on its own. Sometimes I'll draw the cards the night before just to let them "percolate" overnight.
Sometimes I'll have written the "first" part of the reading already -- the personal message part. Sometimes I wait and do it all at once. I try hard not to let the personal message overly influence the reading interpretation -- there's really no intended connection between the two. However, I must admit that sometimes the two fit together very closely.
I write up the readings in Wordpad, then cut and paste them to my mailing list provider. I used to serve my own mailings on my servers, but the overhead of keeping up with bad addresses drove me batty. My new provider takes care of that for me (but charges me for it, of course!) Still, I usually do just enough on the ads to pay for the mailing service!
And that's the mechanics! If you'd like to chat about readings (procedures, decks, interpretations, etc, etc), just drop me a line! I'm always glad to talk Tarot!

Many Thanks!
I'm so grateful for an email I received today! Actually, I'm always grateful to receive emails with the subject line "Re: Woodsong Reading" -- I really enjoy reading your feedback. Many folks send helpful tips and thoughts -- I guess because of my rambling before each reading when I discuss issues or problems I'm facing, people send encouragement and helpful perspectives.
Today I received an email discussing today's Esbat (full moon). It offered things to consider during this event -- in particular, it mentioned developing courage and learning. Well, this afternoon I had to do a presentation on a new product. This was going to be the first time I had ever done (or even seen) this presentation and I was pretty nervous. After I read this email, I realized I was missing a little bit of courage and wasn't really treating this event as a learning experience. My presentation didn't have to be perfect today -- I just had to present the information in a meaningful manner, but I also had to "learn" while I was doing it. My goal didn't have to be to "present a perfect presentation", my goal became "I want to learn enough to present a better presentation next time". This took a lot of the pressure off -- because it made me realize that there's always an evolutionary process as you become more experienced with a project.

Hey, I've Started a Blog!
Not too sure how this'll turn out ... I seem to have enough trouble making my weekly reading deadline ... but I thought I'd try to put together a BLOG. I seem to come across enough things that just don't fit in the weekly reading and thought perhaps a Bloggish journal might be a good medium.
Since this is the very firstish post, I'm still experimenting a bit. Let's see how this looks -- once I get things down, I'll start adding more content!
