Woodsong Reading

Greetings,

Hope your week's been going well ... I'm back in Houston this week (good to be home!)

Lot of excitement in Houston regarding the gasoline refinery explosion -- there are lots of refineries and chemical plants in East Houston. Lots of waterways, ports, and canals, so it's a logical place.

I used to live in Baton Rouge about 20 miles south of the refineries. When one of the storage tanks exploded many years ago, it shook our house 20 miles away. The explosion in Houston was much bigger.

I used to work indirectly for a plastics plant in Houston. About 20 years ago, the plant next door (next door is a relative term -- it really wasn't that close) had an explosion. I got called in because the explosion knocked all the hard drives in the PC's at our plant out of alignment!

My ex used to work at a refinery plant -- from what I understand, the plants actually have a tremendous amount of safety designed and built in. When there is an accident, it's normally because someone did something very dumb or very careless.

Listening to the news about the new earthquake near Sumatra. I'm hoping things will work out.

How about a quick word from our sponsor, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Two of Cups (Reversed)

Queen of Swords

The Two of Cups suggests something new coming into play -- something in the emotional or romantic area. Typically, this is an emotional bonding, a growing together between persons. This could be a romantic bond, or perhaps simply a friendship. It even could be reestablishing ties with an ex-friend who you’ve had words with, or it could be a family growing closer together. A Two of Cups situation also implies a certain amount of sharing as the participants provide emotional support to one another.

Note the card is reversed -- suggesting a blockage or distortion of the card's message. For instance, it could suggest that difficult times or events are pulling members of a family apart rather than drawing them together. Let's take a look at our second card for things to consider.

The Queen of Swords suggests a solid-headed, no nonsense person. She's been around the block and she knows the score. You’re not going to pull any fast ones on the Queen of Swords. She’s brutally honest - with herself and with others. She doesn’t play games - she’s direct and straightforward.

What I get here is that the Queen of Swords isn't going to let her heart lead her astray -- she's going to keep her head in the game. For instance, we often do "dumb" things because our "feelings are hurt". The Queen of Swords wouldn't do that -- she wouldn't let hurt feelings get in the way of doing the right thing.

Sometimes the right thing is to take the long view. Rather than lose ground because of surface-level feelings, the Queen looks at what she might gain if she just swallows a little pride. Sometimes it's worth it to "lose" an argument if it means you'll win the long-term relationship. Which is more important? Could this be what the reversed Two of Cups is suggesting?

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Greetings,

Hope your week's been going well ... I've still been in Wilmington, but am heading back to Houston today.

Not a whole lot's been going on for me the past week -- been so involved in this gig in Wilmington that I haven't really been able to attend to much else.

It's spring break time for my two boys in college -- which means we haven't seen them for several days. They had talked about going to Corpus Christi (nice beaches) or perhaps Mexico, but they called yesterday from Louisiana instead. I think they did the New Orleans/Bourbon Street thing.

Two of my 13 year old daughter's close friends "ran away" from home the other day -- they stayed gone a couple of days. I know they asked my daughter to come along -- I'm glad she said no, but I want to talk to her when I get home to reinforce that 1) she made the right choice, and 2) sometimes it's really hard to make the right choice.

Does anyone ever get good at this parent thing?

How about a quick word from our sponsor, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Three of Cups (Reversed)

The Chariot (Reversed)

Once again, two reversed cards. The repeat of reversals could suggest some sluggishness in getting things in motion. Maybe it's just end-of-Winter blues ... perhaps once Spring kicks in, we'll get an injection of energy?

The Three of Cups could suggest reason for celebration -- of course, the reversal twists this to say we haven't quite achieved that reason yet. Why? Well, let's look at our next card, the Chariot.

The Chariot suggests winning -- achieving what you desire. It doesn't suggest you can do this because you've got super abilities or skills -- it suggests you can do this by force of your will. If you persist in seeking your goal -- and don't let temporary setbacks discourage you -- then you will ultimately win.

It's not that the Chariot ignores temporary failures ... it's more that the Chariot doesn't give them much weight. The goal is what matters.

Being reversed, we again twist this message. Perhaps we are letting temporary setbacks overly influence us?

For example, lets think about something like New Year's resolutions. If you made any, this is about the time most people have suffered some setbacks (smoked a cigarette, ate too much, didn't read the books they wanted to, etc). It's possible that a succession of setbacks creates a habit of "failure" -- and your resolution or goal kind of slips away.

If you try to establish your will, though -- what you want to happen is to lose weight, to quit smoking, to eat better, to exercise more, etc. Keep this in mind and try to impose your will upon yourself. A succession of small successes can just as easily create a habit of "success" -- and you'll find yourself on your way to your goal.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Greetings,

Hope your week's started off well! I'm off to Wilmington, Delaware this coming week. Looking forward to some good clam chowder!

I had a real nice time in Nashville last week; did some tourist stuff and had a chance to visit Gruhn Guitar's again.

I can think of four "famous" music/guitar stores in America -- Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Manny's in New York City, Mandolin Brothers in ... (where are they from? Delaware? New Jersey?), and Gruhn's in Nashville. Gruhn's is probably the most famous. (I know Sam Ash and Guitar Center are probably the two biggest names, but they're really chain stores.)

One Gruhn story that sticks in my head -- many years ago, Eric Clapton spent the day at Gruhn's, playing various Fender Stratocasters (Clapton had been a Gibson man previously). He bought a couple that he gave to friends, but couldn't find one that was just right for himself. He realized that he liked the neck from one guitar, the body of another, and the pickups/sound of a third. Gruhn's swapped the pieces around ... and the result was "Blackie", the black Stratocaster Clapton used for so many years.

Seem's like last time I went to Gruhn's (years and years ago), they were pretty good about letting you play the guitars. Now, you have to have a salesperson work with you if you want to play -- that was disappointing, because I really enjoyed when you could spend an hour or two and just fiddle around.

Elderly Instruments is still like that. It was originally a fairly large house in Lansing, Michigan -- they've expanded some rooms but kept others the original size. It works very well that way -- all the acoustic guitars are in a large room (and there are plenty of chairs so you can sit and play all you want), the electrics are in another large room, they have a smaller room for amplifiers -- which means you can close the door and wail away all you want. They have violins in another small room so you can close the door and be able to hear the violin over the sound of people wailing away! Lots of sheet music, books, and mandolins, banjos, dobros, ukelele's, etc. They encourage you to play everything, too.

I used to go to Detroit a lot -- I'd always break away on Thursday afternoons (Elderly stays open late on Thursday) and drive the 90 miles or so to Lansing. Elderly would often have live music from touring acoustic groups, so it made for a fun evening.

Been to Manny's in Manhattan, but didn't care for it much -- it was just a small, crowded, fast-paced music store and the prices weren't very good. I think Manny's main claim to fame is that Jimi Hendrix used to shop there.

Oops, sorry -- I got carried away talking about guitars ... my bad! How about a quick word from our sponsors, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Ten of Wands (Reversed)

The Empress (Reversed)

You might remember that I feel whenever all or a majority of the cards in a reading are reversed, there's usually a single action or event that can turn them upright. In this case, we're going to look for a single thing that links these two reversed cards.

The Ten of Wands refers to hard work -- hard, slow work. Sounds really tedious, but it also suggests eventual success. Because -- if you hack away at something, making a little progress every day, then you're going to succeed!

One thing this takes is patience -- and the reversal suggests this might be a problem. Let's think of "impatience" being suggested by this Ten ... and let's look at our next card to see how to turn it around.

The Empress usually refers to nurturing or maternal activity. This is not only an act of caring and giving, but it also receives comfort as well. Caring for something, comitting to an action, means you become part of the object. This sense of "joining" or "belonging" provides comforting feedback.

So ... let's think of this Empress as suggesting a feeling of belonging. Reversed, we have the opposite -- a feeling of being left out. When we put the two cards together, we might see something like this:

What can make us feel impatient -- well, obviously, if we want some immediate payoff and aren't willing to wait -- or work -- for the results, then we'll be impatiently disappointed! The Empress suggests a way out -- why not take a little time to enjoy being part of something? I'm not thinking of stopping and smelling a rose, I'm thinking of stopping and realizing that you and the rose are both living, breathing occupants of the world. You're both made of similar components.

How about the community you live in? Is it just a place where you sleep, watch TV, and eat? Or, do you do something to be a part of the community? Do you keep up with neighbors or your neighborhood groups? Do you volunteer time at various community activites? How about working with local clubs or hobby groups? Do you help out with neighborhood schools? Attend local plays and concerts? What about stopping to visit when you shop at neighborhood stores?

How about family? Are you just a bunch of people who live in the same house, are do you make the time to do things that make you identify as a group?

If you do any of this, it makes you slow down a bit -- and you may find that slowing down and becoming a part of something is it's own reward. You may also notice that you're enjoying taking things a bit slower -- which will likely mean any feeling of impatience will disappear. It's not always the ultimate goal that's important, it's often what you accomplish along the way.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Tarot Reading

Greetings,
Hope your week's started off well! I'm surprised at how fast the week's getting away from me -- I had to go to the dentist on Monday, then I travelled Tuesday, so today was really my first day. I'm thinking "Well, I've got the rest of the week to finish things up" ... but then I realize the rest of the week is almost over with!
I'm not in Peoria this week -- back in Nashville again. Last week it was 70's, sunny, and glorious in Nashville. This week it's COLD and snowy -- just my luck, because it's back to nice weather again next week. I think I'm heading up to Delaware next week, so I'm just not getting any chance to enjoy any warm weather lately.
I'm having a little more time to go exploring this time around -- there's plenty to do in downtown Nashville. I love live music, so I'm thinking of hitting some of the blues clubs around 2nd Avenue tomorrow night. I'm not a real club or bar type person, but downtown Nashville is kindy touristy, so it's not quite the same as hitting the local bars.
Am enjoying American Idol this time around -- really enjoy watching Bo Bice perform ... but can't imagine what he'll do when he has to sing a Barry Manilow song.
How about a quick word from our sponsors, and then on to the reading!

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Six of Cups
The Sun
I've really got to start keeping track of these weekly readings (actually, I am -- I'm placing them on a blog at http://woodsongtarot.blogspot.com . The nice thing is that it let's you make comments about the reading online.) I could swear we had these same two cards just a few months back.
The Six of Cups makes me think of familiar, comfortable things. It makes me think of feeling warm, safe, and secure. You're not talking about big changes or exciting doings when the Six of Cups comes around -- it's time to cuddle up with the things that make you feel comfortable and at ease.
We've seen the Sun around a lot lately (could use some of it where I've been travelling!). The Sun also makes me think of warm, comforting times. Some of the Sun's comfort comes from the fact that it's enlightening -- it suggests being able to think clearly about complex matters.
When we put these two cards together, we get a tip that might help us address troubling situations. Perhaps, we may be able to resolve troubling issues not by trying something new, but by going back to the simple things we can always count on. Old friends, family, a comfortable pair of sweatpants, a jar of peanut butter, or a Bogart movie. Simplify things if you can -- perhaps the peace of mind you'll achieve will put you in the right frame of mind to face problems.
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you through the weekend and look forward to talking to you again next week. As always, if you're interested in a private reading, please try my sponsors above or my list of readers at http://www.woodsongtarot.com/readers.html .
