Woodsong Reading

Hi there!

I hope your week's been going well -- I had a meeting in League City (near NASA southeast Houston) first thing yesterday morning ... which meant I had to leave about an hour-and-a-half early to get all the way through town in rush hour traffic (it's about a 60 mile drive from my house).

We gathered in a conference room along a waterway and waited for the meeting to start. The building sat on a waterway and we were all admiring a slew of yachts and sailboats berthed just outside. One fellow from Minnesota mentioned "I never would have pictured this scene when I thought about Houston."

It's pretty true -- Houston can really surprise you. It's not just a hot and dry Texas town. The terrain varies from the prairies in the west, rolling hills to the northwest, piney forests in the north, wooded bayous in the central area, working canals and refineries in the east, cactus deserts and salty marshes to the south, and coastal waterways in the southeast.

NASA's set up in the southeast part. I enjoy visiting, but you have to be into that sort of thing to enjoy it. It's still a government institution and a working space center -- which means it's not a plush environment. You're not going to find "space rides" and Disney-type attractions -- in fact, many atttractions are simply "This is the building where they managed the moon landings", "This is the building where they built the lunar lander", things like that. Last time we went, one of the hot projects (since cancelled) was an escape/rescue vehicle for the Space Shuttle. They were building it in an old tin corrugated building. The high-tech is what happens inside the buildings -- not the buildings themselves!

How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

King of Cups

Two of Pentacles (Reversed)

The King of Cups is a very strong and compassionate card - it crosses many boundaries to see what is wonderful and unique in all creatures. This card also suggests calmness and composure, of being in control of your emotions. The King deals well with others, as he is tolerant of their positions - he can be because he is so confident in his own position that he is not threatened by others. He doesn’t get excited or riled up; he often knows just the right thing to say to smooth out a difficult situation.

Sounds pretty nice, right! People are attracted to Kings -- they sense the authority, they like to ask for advise, they welcome the personal interaction. Because of this, Kings sometimes find the demand for their time may be quite high.

The reversed Two recognizes this and suggests something to consider -- don't overextend yourself. If you find yourself in the middle of a situation ... perhaps as a mediator, or perhaps just as a sounding-board ... be wary of being drawn too thin. While the tolerance of the King of Cups makes him an ideal mediator, realize that this position can be quite stressful -- especially if you can identify and empathize with opposing viewpoints. Don't hesitate to step back and put a hold on things if you feel the need to rest and recharge. You won't be able to help many people if you wear yourself to a frazzle.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Hi there!

I hope you had a fine weekend -- we planted bushes and such.

Actually, we did that about a month ago. I have a well-documented "brown" thumb, so about half of what we planted last month has already dried up and died. Plantings yesterday were to replace the dead stuff -- mainly about a dozen camelia bushes we planted along the back fence. The local nursery has them half-price right now, so it wasn't too painful.

When I grew up in Louisiana, we had dozens of camelia bushes -- I really miss them. Years later when I was at college in Lafayette, Louisiana, a camelia bush had a major part in my first "sensitive" (I hesitate to call it "psychic") experience.

I enjoy gardening -- well, actually I enjoy the planning and the finished product ... I'm not too crazy about the hard work in the middle -- but don't do very much of it right now. We have a small stone fountain in the back yard -- I used to have it ringed with roses -- mini's, standard, and climbing. I also had three nice herb garden sections that were really flourishing.

Then we decided to keep the dogs in the backyard rather than the house. Big mistake for the gardens -- Bailey, our Golden Retriever, ate all the roses and all the herbs. All we have growing now are the weeds she won't eat. Her big goal now is to dig up a huge crepe myrtle we have in the back. She's already dug a whole about four and a half feet deep along one side of the roots! We keep filling it back in; she keeps digging it back up.

Princess, our black-and-white Border Collie (her whole name is Princess Rainbow -- why our daughter picked "Rainbow" for a black-and-white dog I don't know -- although she did paint the dog once) doesn't dig. She likes to jump in the fountain, eat, and sleep. I could get into that kind of life!

How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

The Hermit

The Empress

Hey -- no reversals! It's been a while since we could say that!

Both cards are Trumps, too. I tend to think of a reading consisting of mainly trumps as being a little less variable -- the meaning tends to be more personal and easily understood.

When we evaluate a situation, we can use all the tools we have available to us -- intuition, perceptions, inclinations, experience, logic, etc, etc. We don't necessarily do this conciously -- it all happens in the middle of the muddle of our brain, perhaps without us being aware of how we attained an evaluation.

The Hermit suggests we lean a little more on our experience to help us. Experience is a great asset -- because we gain experience both when we succeed and when we fail. We've spent a lot to gain experience -- so we should feel comfortable relying on it when we need to. Our experiences don't lie to us -- what we've learned is personal, direct, and real.

Still -- we've experienced a lot of different things. Can we tune this a little further? The Empress offers the next clue.

The Empress speaks of the homelife -- family, personal things, people and causes we care deeply about. With this in mind, we can use both cards to help us evaluate a situation.

We can use our experience to determine which courses available to us will most benefit our home life. These might be the courses that we should most strongly consider. For example, should you work a little overtime -- or should you attend your son's play at school. You shouldn't shirk work -- but if the options available to you, perhaps you can put work on the back burner for a little more family time for a while.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Hi there!

I hope your week's begun well; we've got some changes going on over here -- my younger son is moving back to Louisiana for a bit.

He got into some legal trouble last year -- I didn't mention it at the time, but perhaps the story might be appropriate now.

Anyway, the short story is that he sold something to a 16 year old girl. The girl whipped out a checkbook and wrote him a check to pay for the item. When he deposited the check at his bank, the bank noticed that the girl had written a check on her mother's account. They called the mom, the mom got upset because she thought someone had stolen her checkbook, and they arrested my son because he was the one at the bank.

Later, the mom realized that it was her daughter who had stolen the checkbook and forged the check; my son wasn't involved at all. She told the bank she didn't want to press charges (because her daughter was the one at fault); the bank claimed they had the ability to press charges without her. Since the daughter was a minor and basically untouchable, they came after my son instead.

After about $10,000 in legal bills, my son plead guilty to a misdemeanor rather than risk a trial and two years in jail. (The mom refused to testify because she didn't want her daughter involved). He received 80 hours of community service as a penalty.

That was a year ago -- now my son found he can no longer work as a car salesman because of the record. He's going back to my ex's house in Louisiana to try and work in Louisiana while we try to get his record expunged. He plans to go back to school to complete his college degree once things settle.

In one sense, this is going to end out good for my son -- he's learning (the hard way) how important an education is to his financial well-being and how important it is to stay clear of "iffy" company.

How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Eight of Swords (Reversed)

Page of Swords (Reversed)

The Eight of Swords suggests those times when you just feel completely "trapped" by circumstances. Ever feel trapped in a job -- or in a relationship -- or in a dumpy house -- or in a (fill in the blank)? The interesting thing about this Eight is that it tells us that even though we feel trapped, the route to escape lies right before us and is easy to take. Often, we're trapped because we don't bother to take the effort to move forward to freedom. It's all up to us -- we're never really stuck in a situation -- we can always break free if we want to. The reversal likely suggests that we may not notice how loosely we're bound -- the way out of any unpleasant situation is always at hand.

Our second card, the Page of Swords, can add a little bit to this. This Page is always ready to leap after the latest neat idea -- in fact, this Page is completely enamored with the idea of change! The reversal suggests a relucatance to chase this change.

When we put these two cards together, we see that we're never really trapped in any undesireable situation. All we need to do to escape is to change things -- but sometimes we're so reluctant to change that we choose to remain in the situation, instead. This is okay -- but we should remember that it's always our decision whether or not to remain. If we want to move on enough, the way is always clear. We just need to be ready to accept the change necessary to take that way.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Woodsong Reading

Hi there!
Hope your week's been going well and I'm sorry for the delay -- it hasn't been a good month over here.
My dad passed away suddenly on Tuesday, so things have been a little crazy. He came down with something called Guillian-Barre disease last Thursday (my birthday); it's kind of like a Bell's Palsy ... some paralysis of the extremities caused by a nerve inflammation. People used to die from it -- it would paralyze your breathing muscles, but isn't considered a fatal illness anymore because you can just use respirators. There are some treatments, but basically you just have to wait several months until you get over it.
Anyway, Dad was doing fine; they decided to put him on the respirator "just in case" and sedated him because he didn't like the breathing tube. His blood pressure went down after the sedation -- and then just kept on going down until his heart stopped. No one expected it.
The "bad month" part is because my brother-in-law passed away mid-May (cancer -- it was expected). Plus, my next-door neighbor's 19 year old son was shot and killed the next week in a totally random robbery. It's been pretty tough.
Anyway, it's time to jump back in the saddle again -- so how about a quick word from our sponsor, then on to the reading.

(I found these guys the other day -- looked really interesting, plus I love to shop)

Do You Love To Eat Out?

What if I told you it was possible to get paid $10 to $40 an HOUR just to go to your favorite mall to shop, eat at your favorite restaurant, golf at your favorite course, or enjoy a movie at your local theater … AND get it all for FREE!!!!!! And, not only get everything for FREE and get a paycheck for it, but someone pays for the gas in your car!!!

------------------------
We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.
The cards are:
Ace of Wands (Reversed)
Knight of Cups (Reversed)
Note the two reversals -- I'm going to come back to that in a moment.
Like all Aces, the Ace of Wands suggests something new ... maybe even something exciting or at least very interesting. This might be an opportunity ... perhaps a chance to express yourself creatively. While this Ace suggests you consider areas where you might excel, realize that you also need confidence and courage to do so. This Ace suggests you may expect to be successful -- so it may provide strength if you're feeling tentative.
Let's try to further filter the message of this Ace with the Knight of Cups. I always am a little uncertain with face cards -- are they referring to people, or are they referring to a set of attributes. Different readers feel different ways. I'm somewhere in the middle -- I think sometimes they do refer to people; othertimes, they do suggest attributes to consider.
In any case, the Knight of Cups is strongly affected by emotions ... perhaps to the point of being overly romantic or dreamy. This is a very sensitive card. While these are admirable attributes, you should resist the temptation to look inwards too much. You should be aware of overall balance when considering this Knight (and all Knights tend to go to extremes in one way or the other)
What I'm thinking is what happens when you get really involved in a project -- one that really enthralls you. You may become absorbed in the project to the exclusion of all else. Our first card suggests a new and exciting endeavor; our second card warns about retaining balance in your life. Lets consider our reversals -- I think we're getting a warning here to be wary of short-changing other facets of our life should we become too interested in one single project. While it's great to become involved in new things, we shouldn't let the rest of our life -- or those involved in our life -- suffer from it. Sometimes we have to emphasize one facet of our life over the others ... but be careful not to let it get out of hand!
And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. As always, if you're interested in a private reading, please try my sponsors above or my list of readers at http://www.woodsongtarot.com/readers.html .
