Merry Christmas!

I hope your week's been going well so far -- the shopping frenzy is wild up here in Chicago, but I'm trying to stay out of stores.

Was in the Post Office a few days ago -- and I'd like to pass along one of my Post Office pet peeves. It goes like this -- someone wants to mail a package, the postal clerk asks "Priority Mail or Express Mail"? When asked the difference, the clerk says "Well, we'll deliver Priority in two or three days, but Express Mail will be THERE tomorrow!" They usually close the deal for the three times pricier Express Mail.

It bugs me because Priority Mail will most always be in your recipient's hands before -- quite often, DAYS before -- Express Mail would be there!

The key is what the clerk means by "will be THERE tomorrow". Note he doesn't say it will be delivered tomorrow -- just that it will be "there". When you read the fine print, you find out that all they guarantee is that the package will be at the recipient's post office tomorrow -- that's the "there" they're talking about.

Once at the post office, it's now up to the mail carrier to grab the package and deliver it. Maybe he'll get it the same day -- but maybe he won't. Assume he does pick up the package and attempts to deliver. Express Mail requires that the recipient sign for the package. If no one's there to sign in the middle of the day, the carrier leaves one of those yellow notes directing the recipient to come by the post office -- no sooner than the next day -- to pick up the package. If the carrier is like mine, they won't even bother to get out of the truck to ring the bell -- they'll automatically leave the yellow note even if I'm at home.

So, now the recipient has to go to the post office for the package. That may take a few days before they have time to do so. Add up the hassle and the long lines at the post office, and you'll see why the Priority Mail package (which does not have to be signed for) usually gets to the recipient long before Express Mail -- plus it usually costs a third of Express Mail prices!

How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Knight of Cups

Eight of Pentacles

No reversals this week! Maybe we're moving forward now!

When we see the Knight of Cups, we're usually talking about emotions and feelings. This knight is driven by his strong sense of emotion. One problem with being too involved with emotions is that we may look inwards too much -- we may become overly concerned with how things make us feel. This is in general a good card -- but we should try to remain balanced. Remember that most Knights tend to over-react -- we may find ourselves in situations when it is easy to do so, but best if we do not! I'm thinking that the holidays tend to be a very emotional time -- let's enjoy those feelings, but not let them drive us out of whack! Keep one foot in the real world!

Lets see how our next card, the Eight of Pentacles, can help us. I've mentioned before that this eight is a "joy of work" card -- it recognizes that making an effort to attain a goal can itself be a source of enjoyment and comfort. In particular, this eight likes to do a job extremely well -- this means taking the time to check out all the details and reviewing all the important -- and not so important points.

Note that while the Knight of Cups tends to overemphasize the emotional aspects, the Eight of Pentacles helps us look at all facets of a situation. When we put them together, we find that we are able to comfort ourselves with a warm blanket of emotional feelings -- but that we don't have to be overwhelmed by those feelings. While important, they're just part of the story. Enjoy them, but remember that the Eight can help us see the entire -- and truer -- picture.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Close Tough Decisions

I hope your week's been going well. My Microsoft Office decided to quit working -- had to go through hoops to uninstall and reinstall it. Finally got it working again late last night! I can't wait till Linux takes over the Microsoft world (probably won't happen -- but I can hope!)

My son's up in Great Lakes, IL (basically north Chicago); I've been teasing him about the weather up there. Just found out I've got to go to Chicago for all of next week -- I guess he'll be getting payback. I figure I'll get snowed in at the airport and will spend Xmas in Chicago.

Two airports I try to avoid in the winter -- Chicago and Cleveland. When your ticket says you're connecting in Cleveland, you'd best plan on spending the night there because your flight will either be delayed many, many hours or simply cancelled.

How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Judgement (Reversed)

Chariot (Reversed)

That's two weeks in a row we've drawn two Major Arcana cards. When I see an excess or a sequence of Trumps, I always figure the deck is telling me to "Pay attention, this is important!"

Judgement suggests making decisions -- probably those tough ones that you've been putting off. You should be straight and honest, but you should also make a stand. This is usually tough to do (after all, that's probably why you've put it off!), but there are benefits. One major benefit is that it frees you -- you no longer have an unfinished matter hanging over you. Judgement is good about closing issues -- it can often suggest forgiving others for past transgressions; maybe it's time to leave the past behind and move on.

The reversal recognizes how easy it is to say this, but how difficult it is to do. Perhaps this is a good time to examine your situation and see if there are any areas where a tough, but honest, application of Judgement might benefit you?

Our next card might help us a bit. The Chariot is a "Win" card -- it suggests prevailing over an obstacle by virtue of your will. This is a nice way of saying "being just too stubborn to give up". You can prepare all you want, but if you don't have the will to pull it off, you're not going to. The Chariot acknowledges that you CAN overcome problems -- all you have to do is stick it out.

Again, we have a reversal -- again recognizing how easy it is to say, but difficult to do! Perhaps realizing that success is possible -- if you're willing to stay the course -- might make it easier to get through those tough spots?

Bottom line, consider those tough decisions that vex you. If you're willing to ride it out, you can address those issues honestly and fairly -- and close them out so you can move on to better things!

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week. Hi there!

I hope your week's been going well. I'm sorry for missing last week -- the holiday's have just been getting more and more hectic. Seems like I'm spending all of my time on the road -- but I am staying out of stores!

Don't know if I mentioned it or not, but my son visited New Orleans a week or so ago. He said the stories you've seen on the new don't even come close to depicting how bad it is. At one point, they were driving through a fairly ritzy, but deserted neighborhood. They had to stop because there was a house in the middle of the street. As they were driving around the house, they realized there was no empty slab anywhere nearby. The house had floated there from another subdivision!

He described New Orleans as "grey" -- no color, just drab. I don't think they're going to be able to rebuild New Orleans; I think it'll form an inner city on the high ground of about 75,000 people, then it'll just have to grow on it's own from there, just like any other town.
How about some quick words from my sponsors, then on to the reading.

We'll again pull two cards -- the first suggests something we should focus on for the week. The second suggests things we might consider in order to fully benefit from the attributes of the first card.

The cards are:

Strength

Death

Strength doesn't necessarily refer to physical strength, but to inner strength. For example, it could suggest the strength to resist temptation, or the strength to persevere during hard times. Strength is a patient card - it is used to dealing with frustration. It’s also a compassionate card - it recognizes the weaknesses in others, but doesn’t hold it against them. Finally, Strength represents the ability to control others - not by dominant force of will, but by influencing them through example. To get an idea of how we might try to apply this sort of strength, let's look at our next card -- Death!

It’s okay - Death doesn’t really mean Death! Actually, Death means something new, or change. Remember the expression "The King is dead, long live the King!" - that’s kind or what Death means. It says life goes on - the end of one thing is the beginning of something new. Because of this, Death often suggests a period of transition. Death often suggests eliminating less meaningful factors and concentrating on the basic, key points that concern you.

When we put these together, we could see a suggestion of change. Perhaps we've been trying to solve difficult matters the wrong way -- perhaps we're misapplying our inner strength? Death suggests a change -- and the change should be the positive attributes suggested by Strength. When we're frustrated, simply be patient ... things like likely clear up. Don't get distracted by side issues -- concentrate on what really matters.

And that's about it this time! I hope things go well for you this week and look forward to talking to you again next week.
